Date Posted: October 10, 2017 Elementary, junior high, and high school students are looking for college students like you who have a basic understanding of math and science! If you don't have any experience tutoring or mentoring, fear not! Canoga Park students want your help, no matter what kind of experience you have.
Questions? We have answers.
Who will I be tutoring/mentoring? You will be tutoring and/or mentoring economically challenged students who want to strengthen their math and science skills in preparation for college. These students are enrolled in continuation high schools or participate in non-profit after school programs, including:
West Valley Boys and Girls Club
RUTH YouthBuild High School
The Guadalupe Community Center
Coutin Continuation High School
What subjects will I be helping with? Tutors and mentors are needed during school hours and/or after school for...
Math: algebra, geometry, and/or calculus
Science: biology and chemistry
Where are these organizations located? Each of these organizations are conveniently located within 15 minutes of CSUN and serve economically challenged, K-12 students.
How often will I be tutoring/mentoring these students? Hours may vary. Please plan to volunteer for approximately 5 hours a week.
Can these volunteer hours count towards something else? This program may count as an internship, community engagement project, or field experience. CSUN professors are also more than welcome to use this program as a service-learning opportunity for their students.
Who do I contact in order to start volunteering? For further details, please contact Doug Kaback at (818) 677-7715.
